What are the minimum requirements
to register with comm-motion?
To register with comm-motion you need to:
- be at least 18 years old and hold a valid full UK driver's
licence
- have minimum liability insurance, a current MOT and road
tax for your vehicle
- have no convictions for drink driving, manslaughter or
causing death by dangerous driving
- agree to the terms and conditions detailed at the commencement
of the registration.
How much money can I earn?
This depends on how much of your vehicle actually gets wrapped.
There are three basic options:
- Max-wrap: your whole vehicle is covered
except the windscreen.
Special transparent vinyl is used on the other windows so
all-round visibility remains the same as normal.
This will earn you up to £220 per calendar month.
- Classic-wrap: doors, side-panels, bonnet
and rear of the vehicle are covered, earning you up to £185
per calendar month.
- Superside Plus: coverage of door panels and part wings along with a visual on bonnet and/or rear, earning you up to £150 per calendar month
These fees include loyalty bonuses of £20 which are triggered
after your third wrap.
Different fee structures may apply to non-standard wraps. The
type of wrap your vehicle receives will depend on the requirements
of the advertiser.
What exactly is a wrap?
A wrap is a high quality adhesive vinyl film that is applied
to the surfaces of your vehicle. This temporary coating carries
a colourful pre-printed advertisement, logo or other graphic
design.
The practice is now pretty widespread - you may have seen
it on taxis, buses, lorries, commercial fleet vans, trains
and even aeroplanes.
comm-motion's printing and wrapping is carried out by one
of Europe's largest specialists, which has nearly twenty years'
experience of vinyl application to thousands of different
vehicles.
What kinds of vehicle can be
wrapped?
We custom make each wrap to fit almost any make or model in
the UK. So whether you drive a micro, mini, saloon, coupé,
hatchback, estate, sports, convertible, people-carrier, jeep
or small van you can register with comm-motion. Neither does
the colour matter.
Obviously, advertisers want their adverts to be seen on
vehicles that are in reasonable condition, so vehicles that
are less than six or seven years old are more likely to be
selected for wrapping than older vehicles. We also require
you to wash your car at least once a fortnight when it is
wrapped.
Am I committed to accepting all wraps offered to me?
No, you are free to choose and can accept or decline any or every wrap offered for your own reasons.
There are no penalties for declining a wrap and this will not jeopardize your future eligibility for campaign selection.
The positive 'word of mouth' that exists between drivers and the public is something unique with comm-motion that we want to harness,
so we'll never coerce anyone to take a wrap that they're not entirely comfortable with.
What if I have a company car?
comm-motion has no problem with registering company cars on
the database; however, we can accept no responsibility for any
problems with or interventions by your company. You should seek
permission from and make your own arrangements with your company
before having any wrap on your company car. Notification should
also be given to any leasing or finance company which may have
an interest in the vehicle.
What about commercial vehicles,
fleets and mini-cab fleets?
We are keen to get these kinds of vehicles wrapped, but since
they are likely to be of special interest to advertisers, you
should contact comm-motion at freepost comm-motion or at helpdesk@comm-motion.com
to discuss prior to registration.
Can I choose what kind of advertising
to have on my car?
Yes - we understand that your car is part of your personal territory.
For this reason, comm-motion does exclude certain categories
of advertising, such as tobacco, condoms and feminine hygiene
products.
And, if there are any particular categories or brands that
you personally would be uncomfortable in carrying on your
vehicle, you can indicate these at the end of the registration
questionnaire. However, don't forget that the more categories/brands
you exclude, the less chance your vehicle has of being selected.
You can also let us know if there are any categories or brands
which you would be keen to advertise.
In fact, drivers elsewhere have reported feeling that driving
with a cool brand or eye-catching graphic on their vehicle
can be a fun experience.
How far do I have to drive?
As far as you usually do. You don't need to change your driving
habits at all. When you register, you tell us your usual drive
patterns, which we then match to our advertisers needs. You
carry on driving as before. In most instances, these patterns
will be confirmed by a small GPS unit which is temporarily installed
in your vehicle.
What is a GPS unit?
GPS stands for Global Positioning System. The unit is about
the size of a pocket dictionary. It is secured under the bonnet
of your vehicle, where it takes power direct from the battery,
with no risk of drainage. A small disc antenna also
runs from the unit. This attaches discreetly to the
outside of your windscreen. It records your position at regular
intervals and sends the information by satellite back to our
monitoring centre. It doesn't offer the route-finding features
of the GPS receivers that you can buy in the shops, so is of
no use or value to anyone else.
comm-motion guarantees your privacy throughout this monitoring
process. We're not interested in the details of individual
car journeys and at no point is you or your vehicle's identity
revealed to the advertisers.
The information is gathered daily and compiled into monthly
reports, so we can track the visibility of the adverts. Being
able to measure the effectiveness of the adverts in this way
makes it much easier to persuade advertisers to wrap your
car.
What about damage to my paintwork?
A vinyl wrap actually protects your paintwork against the effect
of UV rays, stone chips, salt corrosion and normal wear and
tear. This helps to protect resale value.
comm-motion can never provide absolute guarantees against paintwork damage without full knowledge of each vehicle’s history. However provided that the paintwork is of original factory standard and has not suffered damage or neglect e.g. scratches, impact damage, rust etc. it is unlikely that the wrap will have any adverse effect to the condition of paintwork upon removal.
No driver will ever be asked to commit to a wrap without being fully comfortable with the level of risk, in so far as it can be identified, however small that risk may be. This issue will always be highlighted before going ahead via comm-motion's 'vehicle inspection form' with the location(s) of any visible damage identified and marked on a vehicle 'diagramatic flat plan'. This form must be read and signed by the driver or his/her representative before wrapping commences. There is a paint waiver reminder, highlighted, on the front of the vehicle inspection form.
Will my insurance be affected ?
Carrying a wrap should not affect your motor insurance. In fact, we will be providing full cover for damage to your vehicle during the vinyl application and
removal process. We are also arranging insurance cover against damage to the vinyl wrap while applied on your vehicle and against theft or damage to the portable GPS unit you may be required to carry.
Also,
don't forget that a wrapped vehicle is easy to identify and
the wrap is a strong deterrent to car thieves. You should
inform your insurance company when you are due for your first
wrap. Notification should also be given to any leasing or
finance company which may have an interest in the vehicle.
The
DVLA has ruled that there is no requirement to notify them
of any change of vehicle colour that would come with a temporary
wrap. Click
here for reassurance.
What happens if I have an accident
or the wrap is damaged?
It is your duty to inform comm-motion immediately there
is a problem of this nature, so that we can respond promptly.
Failure to act in good time may mean comm-motion withholding
part or all of your payment.
How long will I have the wrap
for?
This depends on the advertiser's requirement. The minimum is
likely to be a month and the maximum 12-18 months. We expect
the average to be about 2-3 months. Once you've finished one
campaign and the vinyl has been removed, your vehicle becomes
immediately available for another one.
There is no guarantee that your vehicle will be continuously
wrapped, but, as comm-motion becomes increasingly popular
with advertisers, so will your chances of getting wrapped
regularly.
When do I get paid?
To ensure administrative efficiency, we pay you quarterly in
arrears - in January, April, July and October. If you have supplied
us with your bank details, then we will make the payment by
electronic transfer (BACS). This ensures the money reaches your
bank account without the delays of postage and cheque clearing.
You will also be sent remittance advice by e-mail, which
you should retain for tax purposes. comm-motion does not deduct
tax and national insurance from your payment and it is your
responsibility to deal with these issues with the Inland Revenue.
What happens if, for instance, I
want to sell my car or am planning a holiday abroad?
You are contracted to make your vehicle available for commercial
wrapping for a period of five years.
You must therefore inform us, if your vehicle is selected for
a campaign, of any likely or planned events which would prevent
its full use during that campaign.
How does the wrapping process
work?
Once your vehicle has been selected for a particular campaign,
we will normally notify you at least a month in advance and ask you to
confirm your availability. We will then give you details of
where and when your vehicle will be wrapped. This can be adjusted
to suit your own requirements (though not at the last minute).
Wraps are likely to take place towards the beginnings and ends
of calendar months, wherever possible at weekends, although
this cannot be guaranteed.
Wrapping takes place at one of our network of wrap centres
around the country, in a well-known local garage or service
centre. So you should never have to travel more than half
an hour to have your wrap applied. When you arrive at your
wrap centre, you will need to show your driver's licence and
insurance certificate for verification with our database.
Your vehicle will also be inspected for the condition of its
body and paintwork and, hence, its suitability for wrapping.
Spot-wraps take about an hour or less, Classic-wraps about
2-4 hours, depending on the vehicle model. Max-wraps can take
up to 8 hours, but these are likely to be the exception rather
than the norm. A portable GPS unit may also be installed (see
above).
You then drive off, with an obligation to wash the vehicle
(wrap is auto-wash resistant) at least once a fortnight and
to return to the wrap centre once a month for a brief inspection
check.
Removal of the wrap takes place at the same wrap centre,
taking anything from 15-90 mins, depending on the complexity
of the wrap. With luck and comm-motion's brilliant organisation,
you will have a new wrap applied same day.
When can I get my first wrap?
The length-of-a-piece-of-string question! This really depends
on how your vehicle, location and drive patterns match advertisers'
requirements. Our first 'test' launch campaign ran in 2005 and last year, in 2007, we ran wrap campaigns in over 25 different geographic locations around the UK, from Edinburgh to the South Coast of England.
The business is now growing at an increasing rate so the average waiting time for a wrap will continue to reduce.
I can't think of any more questions.
We're glad to hear it - so why not seize the moment and register
now!
